Rick McLean (Macca the Poet) is a Leeds-born poet and spoken word performer based in London.
His work blends Northern humour, social commentary and sharp observations about modern British life, often drawing inspiration from the punk poetry pioneer John Cooper Clarke.
After stepping away from the poetry scene for several years, Rick returned to writing and performing in 2025. Since then his poems have gained over 100,000 views online and have been performed at spoken word events across London.
His work explores working-class life, digital culture, nostalgia, and the strange routines of modern Britain.
NORTHERN RAMBLINGS
Is the home of rants, rhymes and raw observations about modern life, spat out with a pint in hand and a healthy dose of cynicism.
Expect poems about the ghosts of high streets past, overpriced pints, digital chaos, summer holidays gone wrong and the everyday absurdities of British life.
Written with Yorkshire wit and Northern bluntness, the poems mix humour, frustration and nostalgia.
If you like a bit of John Cooper Clarke, a strong cuppa, and the occasional rant about the state of the world, you’ll probably like this too.
